Bugs are a normal and natural part of the world, we all know this! Without them, the plants won’t get fertilised, there will be no nutrients in the grounds, and smaller carnivores won’t be able to feed.
But none of that is needed inside your home! Ideally, all tiny critters should stay in their natural habitat and keep clear of our kitchens, carpets and clothes.
To help you remove these wonderful creatures and keep them where they belong, we have 5 easy tips to make your home pest-free!
1. Cockroaches
Cockroaches can make anyone squeal! Their 8 legs scuttering around your home can be enough to make you gag.
But these bugs are more than just disgusting, they can carry harmful bacteria and diseases. If you see a cockroach in your home, you need to take action.
A cheap, safe and easy way to deter these nasty critters is to chop up an onion until you get 2 halves or 4 quarters. Then sprinkle one teaspoon of baking soda on top. Mix the ingredients together to get a cockroach repellent aroma which doesn’t hurt your nose.
Put these mixtures in every corner of your home, and replace them every day. It won’t take long for all the cockroaches to scutter away.
2. Moths
Moths don’t tend to carry diseases like cockroaches do, but they can destroy your clothes. Any item in your home made out of natural materials would be the perfect food source for a moth. In fact, they might decide to lay their eggs right inside your old wrapped up wedding dress.
If you see one fluttering in your home, nothing will be safe. Even your carpets are at risk. With one flap of a wing, you should buy a moth killer for carpet protection.
These moth killers could be sticky traps to stop them in their tracks, mini smoke bombs to kill even the hidden critters or repellent sprays get them to fly away.
We suggest using all three while wearing a facemask and gloves. Remember that although these killing devices are aimed at small creatures, they can also harm you if used without caution.
3. Ticks
There are thousands of different kinds of ticks, each with its own nasty diseases. If you see a tick on you, your household, or your animals, then you’ll need to remove them as soon as possible.
Because ticks are often on someone’s skin, it isn’t as simple as removing moths. You can’t spray harmful chemicals on your body. Instead, we have some non-toxic approaches for you to follow.

We suggest creating a natural recipe to keep the spiders alive but out of your home.
To make it, just follow this recipe list:
- 10 Drops of Peppermint Oil
- 200 ml of Water
- ¼ Teaspoon of Liquid Detergent
Put them in a spray bottle and shake up the ingredients. Then around once a week, spray your home with the mixture to create a pleasant smelling spider repellent.
5. Ants
Ants are not only unsettling to see, but they can eat your food and ruin the insides of your house. Luckily there is a simple solution to stop them from wandering around your home.
Ants hate cinnamon. Sprinkle some of the powdered variety in the affected areas around your home, and you’ll notice a change straight away.
You’ll also have a lovely Autumn smell to enjoy.
